Difilio Antonio Fernández

Con profunda tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento en paz de Difilio Antonio Fernández, quien murió en su casa en Chicago el 8 de octubre de 2025. Tenía 80 años.

Un hombre de inmensa calidez, generosidad y espíritu, será recordado sobre todo por su risa contagiosa y por una conversación que podía llenar de alegría cualquier habitación.

Difilio fue el amado esposo de Elia María Fernández, apellido de soltera Razo. Fue un padre devoto y cariñoso para sus dos hijos, Norma Ruby Fernández, "Frankie", y Patricia María Fernández, "Patty". Su mayor alegría fue su familia, y su amor por ellos fue la fuerza guía de su vida.

Difilio nació en Cuilco, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, el 1 de junio de 1945. Se mudó a los EE. UU. y se estableció en Chicago en la primavera de 1977. Durante 20 dedicados años, Difilio trabajó como manipulador de correo para el Servicio Postal de los Estados Unidos. Fuera del trabajo, era un multiusos ("handyman") a quien a menudo se le podía encontrar en el garaje o en el jardín, listo para arreglar cosas y hacer trabajos ocasionales en la casa. Tenía una profunda pasión por la música de marimba, una conexión vibrante con su herencia. También le encantaba compartir recuerdos e historias de su tiempo en Guatemala con familiares y amigos, manteniendo viva su cultura y tradiciones a través de su narración.

Le sobreviven su esposa, Elia; sus hijos, Frankie y Patricia; y sus hermanos: Marco Tulio, Octavio Manfredo, Orfilia Areli, Adolfo Otoniel, María Antonieta. Su legado de amor, trabajo duro y alegría contagiosa vivirá en todos los que lo conocieron.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Difilio Antonio Fernández, who died at home in Chicago on October 8, 2025. He was 80 years old.

A man of immense warmth, generosity, and spirit, he will be remembered most for his booming laugh and conversation that could fill any room with delight.

Difilio was the beloved husband of Elia María Fernández, née Razo. He was a devoted and loving father to his two children, "Frankie" Norma Ruby Fernández and Patricia "Patty" Maria Fernández. His greatest joy was his family, and his love for them was the guiding force of his life.

Difilio was born in Cuilco, Huehuetenango, Guatemala on June 1, 1945. He moved to the US and settled in Chicago in the spring of 1977. For 20 dedicated years, Difilio worked as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service. Outside of work, he was a handyman who could often be found in the garage or garden, ready to fix things and take on odd jobs around the house. He had a deep passion for marimba music, a vibrant connection to his heritage. He also loved to share memories and stories from his time in Guatemala with family and friends, keeping his culture and traditions alive through his storytelling.

He is survived by his wife, Elia; his children, Frankie and Patricia; and his siblings: Marco Tulio, Octavio Manfredo, Orfilia Areli, Adolfo Otoniel, Maria Antonieta. His legacy of love, hard work, and infectious joy will live on in all who knew him.
