Ignatius J. Quintana

Ignatius Joseph Quintana, age 76, passed away on March 19, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and friendship.

He was the beloved son of Jose Odilon Quintana Garnica and Maria de Jesus Castro, and a cherished cousin to Leticia (Angel) Lopez. Ignatius was a longtime resident of Chicago’s “Back of the Yards” neighborhood, a place he proudly called home all of his life.

Ignatius earned his bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University, achieved while working at Marshall Field’s on State Street. After 15 years at Field’s, he built a steady career in Security beginning at the Museum of Science and Industry for 4 years and finishing at the Chicago Tribune where he retired after 18 years. 

Outside of his professional life, Ignatius learned and developed a love of photography.  Capturing moments both near and far. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and as far away as Ireland and the United Kingdom. No matter how far he journeyed, he remained closely connected to his neighborhood roots and the longtime friendships he treasured.

He had a special affection for animals, particularly cats, and held a deep bond with his beloved companion, Gringo, who brought him great comfort and joy.

Ignatius will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and friendship as well as his genuine love for the people in his life. He never hesitated to help others when needed. He leaves behind fond memories that will be carried on by family and friends who knew and loved him.

Ignatius era un vecino antiguo del barrio “Back of the Yards” de Chicago, un lugar que sintió orgulloso de llamar su hogar toda la vida.

Ignatius obtuvo su licenciatura en la Universidad Roosevelt, mientras trabajaba en Marshall Field’s, en State Street. Tras 15 años en Field’s, forjó una sólida carrera en el sector de la seguridad, que comenzó en el Museo de Ciencia e Industria, donde trabajó durante 4 años, y terminó en el Chicago Tribune, donde se jubiló tras 18 años. 

Fuera de su vida profesional, Ignatius aprendió y desarrolló su pasión por la fotografía.  Capturando momentos tanto cercanos como lejanos. Viajó extensamente por Estados Unidos, Canadá, México y lugares tan lejanos como Irlanda y el Reino Unido. Por muy lejos que viajará, siempre se mantuvo estrechamente vinculado a sus raíces en el barrio y a las amistades de toda la vida que tanto atesoraba.

Sentía un cariño especial por los animales, en particular por los gatos, y tenía un profundo vínculo con su querido compañero, Gringo, quien le proporcionaba gran consuelo y alegría.

Ignatius será recordado por su amabilidad, generosidad y amistad, así como por su amor genuino hacia las personas de su vida. Nunca dudó en ayudar a los demás cuando era necesario. Deja tras de sí recuerdos entrañables que perdurarán en la memoria de familiares y amigos que lo conocieron y amaron.
