Brother of the late Victor Tovon, Apolonio Romano Cabrera, Lazaro Romano Cabrera, the late Epifanio Romano Cabrera, Cresenciano Romano Cabrera, Ignacio Romano Cabrera, and Adalberta Romano Cabrera.

Jose Romano Cabrera was born in Ayutla, Izucar de Matamoros, Puebla. He spent some time in Chilpancingo, Guerrero with his family before ultimately settling in St. Nicholas Tolentino, Izucar de Matamoros, Puebla. It was there where he went to school, before joining the Mexican Army when he became of age. It was there after a few years where he also met the woman that would become his wife, Florentina Romano nee Camarillo.

He and his spouse moved to the states on the eve of the new year of 1991, living in New York where his first child was born and raised before moving to join his extended family in Chicago, Illinois. He then went on to have 2 more daughters.
