On Sunday, October 11, 2020, Luis Rene Moody, beloved husband, caring father, one-of-a-kind grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 84. He was born March 14, 1936 in Los Indios, TX to Luis and Aurora Moody and raised in San Benito, TX. A veteran of The United States Air Force. He and was survived by his loving wife Ursula, his sister Carmen (Leo); his children Cecilia (Tonya), Lorraine (Todd), Kelly (Anthony), Grace, Velma, Mari (Ruben), and Franco (Dina); his grandchildren Velia, Vincent, Malaina, Jake, Julia, Miranda (Christian), Franco, Zoe, Meagan, and Marc; and great-granddaughter Isla.
Luis had a passion for music from a young age finding himself involved in playing music with Freddy Fender, Max Baca, and was listed in the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame in San Benito, TX. He was a beautiful voice, guitarist, bassist, pianist, and accordion player because he believed that “as long as you can find the middle C, you can learn an instrument”, which made him a jack of all trades... He was a bilingual word smith in his own right, an avid reader with as much book smarts as street smarts. With a self-awarded Master's degree in life.
Later in life he entertained crowds at Charro Days, Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant or any place there was a microphone – if he didn’t bring his own. As his passion grew, he gave his love of music to those around him with karaoke at every family gathering, guitar sessions with his family, music history with anyone that would listen, and vocal lessons to the other musicians around him... whether they asked for it or not. Everywhere he went, he left the place better than when he found it. Luis was a charismatic personality with an infectious smile. His harmonies, jokes, and genuine and consistent happiness will be sorely missed.
