nee Gregus age 90, passed away peacefully. Born and raised in Chicago's historic Back of the Yards neighborhood, she remained a resident of the Chicago area throughout her life.
Rita was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Cernick for 41 cherished years. She was the loving and devoted mother of Russell (Regina) Cernick. Rita took great pride in her role as grandmother to Aaron and Alexandra and was an adoring great-grandmother to her two great-grandchildren.
She was a dear sister to late Lillian (the late Richard) Salvino, the late MaryAnn (Rey) Galvan, the late Jacob (JoAnn) Gregus, and the late Cecelia Gregus.
Rita was an active member of the St. Symphorosa Church Super Club, where she enjoyed fellowship and community activities. In her younger years, she dedicated her time as a Cub Scout Den Leader, guiding and mentoring young scouts. Rita found pleasure in keeping her mind sharp with word search puzzles and enjoyed playing games on her iPad. She had a fondness for old movies, especially classic westerns.
Rita will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her enjoyment of life's simple pleasures. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
