Grandfather and great-grandfather of Katie, Noah, Matthew, Michelle, Christopher, Madison, and Nathan.

William "Bill" Hyland, a lifelong Chicago resident, passed away peacefully on July 3rd after a brief hospital stay; in no way related to the Coronavirus. His family would like others to know that he was more than just the facts in an obituary. He liked dogs, Chicago pizza and he had a sweet tooth. His personality was quirky with a great sense of humor. His nephew Patrick Bruton and Patrick’s family were like his own children.

Mr. Hyland served his country and was honorably discharged from The National Guard. He had challenges and mistakes, but the last half of his life was a praise to God's grace. The Salvation Army was where he received help as he sought and kept his sobriety for 30 years. He drove a truck for them for a number of years and remained a supporter of their ministry. Mr. Hyland worked the 12 steps including reaching out to his daughters from who he was estranged for some years and experienced a full restoration with them. He had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and knew how important forgiveness and making amends were for a peaceful life. His children are grateful for his brave actions in taking the first step in reconciliation. All his children, and his nephew Patrick, are so very proud of how his latter days were lived.
